Safer Neighbourhoods Stronger Communities

Braes Neighbourhood Watch Area Group

When Falkirk Council, approximately 30 years ago, provided a team consisting of a dedicated Consultant and a Police Officer to revitalise Neighbourhood Watch (NW), asking if local people would like to attend a workshop on NW and providing all the information on how to start up a watch and giving assistance, Sylvia McPhee took up the challenge like many others in Falkirk District.

The Council provided the signs and a committee was formed. As things moved on from that original committee Falkirk & District NW was formed. Sylvia held various committee posts and alongside they formed the Braes NW group covering all the 17 villages in the Braes area who all meet two or three times a year.

When NW Scotland formed Sylvia and local Watches received excellent support and have also been lucky enough to have had the support of their local community Policemen.  Over the years they have seen many changes within NW Scotland and, the now named, Police Scotland.

They continue to maintain that contact and are working with their present Community Constables who have set up some drop in sessions for Communities.  Hopefully through these drop in sessions more watches will be established.

Some very old photographs show some members who are unfortunately no longer with us and sadly missed who did a power of work for NW.
