An Aberdeen resident and customer of the same bank for nearly 40 years, received a call on their landline from a withheld number, they were greeted by a female who advised that she was calling from her bank’s fraud team. She advised that the customer was being targeted, so the bank was sending Police to speak with her. Later that evening, a male attended at their home claiming he was from her banks Fraud Prevention Team and that he needed to install fraud prevention software onto iPad and to do so would need to take it with him. He left with the iPad and claimed it could be uplifted the following day from the local branch of the bank. This was a scam, the iPad with charger and log in details were never returned and personal details were accessed.

The Police or your bank will never ask you to transfer money to a safe account or contact you to ask for your full PINs, passwords or passcodes, nor will they remove appliances to install software.
If you receive a request asking for money, follow @TakeFiveStopFraud’s advice and #StopChallengeProtect.
