PERTH: ILLEGAL USE OF MOTORCYCLES, E-BIKES, AND E-SCOOTERS

We have received multiple reports regarding the use of motorcycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters in Perth, particularly in the North Muirton area and the North Inch. The local Community and Roads Policing teams would like to remind the public that operating unregistered motorbikes on roads or in public spaces is both illegal and hazardous.

E-Bike Regulations: E-bikes are legally permitted on public roads if they meet specific criteria. These include:

• The motor must not propel the bike at speeds exceeding 15.5 mph.

• The maximum power output must not exceed 250 watts.

Vehicles that exceed these limits are classified as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act. Consequently, riders of such vehicles must:

• Hold a full UK driving licence.

• Have valid insurance.

• Wear an approved helmet.

Non-compliance with these legal requirements may result in enforcement action under the Road Traffic Act.

E-Scooter Regulations: E-scooters are not allowed on public roads, pavements, or other public spaces, as they do not meet the necessary legal standards. Their use is permitted only on private land with the landowner’s consent. Any non-compliant e-bike or e-scooter found on public roads is liable to be seized.

Operating vehicles that fail to meet these legal standards poses significant risks to riders, other road users, and pedestrians. If you own an e-bike or e-scooter, please ensure it adheres to the legal requirements. Otherwise, refrain from using it on public roads to avoid penalties and safeguard public safety.

Cannabis Cultivation – Male Arrested

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the discovery of a large-scale cannabis cultivation in Errol.

Around 10.20am on Tuesday, 18 March, 2025, officers searched a disused industrial building in the Station Road area, where they discovered and seized a cannabis cultivation of around 550 plants.

Enquiries remain ongoing, and the total value of the recovery has yet to be established.

The man was due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 19 March, 2025.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We continue to take action to disrupt the production and supply of illegal drugs in our communities, and information from the public plays a vital role in helping us do so”

Well Done PD Nash!

A driver who crashed her car, and made off from police, didn’t make it far – Working with divisional colleagues, PD Nash picked up a track in a field and found the suspect hiding in a burn.

The suspect will face lots of charges and PD Nash got lots of ear scratches.

Body Worn Video Cameras – Tayside

Police officers equipped with body worn video cameras are now on duty in Tayside, signalling the start of a national roll out across Scotland.

Around 750 Tayside (D) Division officers, including road policing officers and dog handlers, will be equipped with the new devices over the coming weeks.

As the roll out progresses, more than 10,500 Home Office-approved Motorola VB 400 cameras will be issued to frontline officers from constable to inspector ranks, and to police custody staff, across the country.
