On Sunday the team were at Callendar Park, Falkirk at Awakening The Festival, hosted by Enable Falkirk. Now in it’s 6th year, Scotland’s only festival for anyone with a disability was wonderful, with a whole host of entertainment, food and organisations working hard to support vulnerable people in the community.
We spoke with lots of people who were interested in signing up to the free Neighbourhood Alert system and also a few who were thinking about setting up new watches in their area.
Also of interest was the up and coming RTS (Radio Teleswitch Service) switch off, which is happening later this month, on 30th June. The switch off will affect households that use an older electricity meter for heating their home and for hot water, with some types of electricity meters needing changed. We were able to pass on information and literature provided by E.ON Next to help reach the communities most likely to be affected, which will help to ensure that no one is left without heating or hot water when the switch off happens.
It was fantastic for us to learn more about some of the other organisations who attended and a special mention goes out to Willow and Twinkle (therapy ponies from Happy Hoofbeats Therapies), Ollie and Bear (Pets As Therapy Dogs) and the many other gentle and lovely dogs, who as well as being family members, work and provide invaluable support as Scottish Assistance Dogs.
It was also lovely to see the cast of River City there, supporting the event and joining in the fun. We saw so many happy, smiling faces today and it was an absolute pleasure and privilege to be there.
A huge thank you to Maureen and her team of fabulous volunteers for organising such a special day and for having us along.
