About 9 Alert 9 Illegal Use Of Motorcycles, E-Bikes and E-Scooters

Dear {FIRST_NAME},

We have received multiple reports regarding the use of electric motorcycles in Clackmannan. These motorcycles are being ridden at high speed on roads and footpaths, putting members of the public and the riders at increased danger.

We are keen to trace the individuals responsible. To assist us, we would request that anyone who witnesses or has information regarding the identity of the riders/owners to contact us.

Useful information would be;

  • Location

  • Descriptions of riders and vehicles

  • Names of riders or owners

  • Addresses of riders or owners

  • Photographic or video evidence from mobile phone, dash cam or video doorbells

  •

Information can be provided by contacting 101 or by emailing forthvalleycommunitypoliceclackmannanshire@scotland.police.uk

Illegal use of these vehicles is putting everyone at risk, including the rider. If you or your family have one, make sure it is only used legally.

E-Bike Regulations: E-bikes are legally permitted on public roads only if they meet specific criteria. These include:

  • The motor must not propel the bike at speeds exceeding 15.5 mph.
  • The maximum power output must not exceed 250 watts.
  • Vehicles that exceed these limits are classified as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act. Consequently, riders of such vehicles must:

  • Hold a full UK driving license.
  • Have valid insurance.
  • Wear an approved helmet.
  • Non-compliance with these legal requirements may result in enforcement action under the Road Traffic Act.

E-Scooter Regulations: E-scooters are not allowed on public roads, pavements, or other public spaces, as they do not meet the necessary legal standards. Their use is permitted only on private land with the landowner’s consent. Any non-compliant e-bike or e-scooter found on public roads is liable to be seized.

Operating vehicles that fail to meet these legal standards poses significant risks to riders, other road users, and pedestrians. If you own an e-bike or e-scooter, please ensure it adheres to the legal requirements. Otherwise, refrain from using it on public roads to avoid penalties and safeguard public safety.

For further details on e-bike regulations, visit: https://orlo.uk/0Eep4

Important Reminder: We strongly advise members of the public not to put themselves at risk by attempting to stop vehicles or engaging in confrontations.

If you have information about individuals using these vehicles illegally or dangerously, please contact Police Scotland or Crimestoppers / Fearless – Giving information anonymously | Crimestoppers or 0800 555 111
