Dear Resident,
Ahead of this year’s bonfire season, we would like to take this opportunity to highlight the important role we can all play in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our communities.
Bonfire Night should be a time of celebration and enjoyment for families however in previous years we have seen firework related antisocial behaviour and disorder in this area. We are asking for your help in preventing this from occurring again by considering the following advice:
Please report any unauthorised sale of fireworks to the Police or Crimestoppers
Please report any unauthorised bonfires or fireworks displays to the Police, Crimestoppers or Edinburgh Council
Report any large objects that could form part of a bonfire to Edinburgh Council who will request them to be removed
Leading up to bonfire night, please dispose of your rubbish appropriately
Please report any antisocial behaviour or disorder that you become aware of
Do not allow children or young people to be involved in, or to accompany anyone who is involved in antisocial behaviour or disorder
Unless supervised by an adult, please do not allow children or young people to handle, purchase or set off fireworks
Unauthorised bonfires and irresponsible use of fireworks have resulted in serious injury in the past.
Edinburgh Council has designated 14 Firework Control Zones (FCZ) where it is illegal to set off fireworks, including on private property. These will be advertised locally as well as on social media and further details can be found on the City of Edinburgh Council website.
It is also against the law for any person to have category 2 and 3 fireworks (rockets, roman candles etc) or pyrotechnics (flares) in any public place.
Useful Contacts
City of Edinburgh Council – 0131 200 2000
Crimestoppers – 0800 555 111
Police – 101 (or 999 in an emergency)
We thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our communities safe for everyone.
Kind regards,
Police Scotland Edinburgh
