Bogus Doorstep Callers

About 9 Alert 9 Bogus Doorstep Callers

As the warmer weather arrives, be aware that doorstep criminality can increase.

There have been recent reports in the North coast of Ayrshire of a male conducting door to door – using “identification” similar to the attached image in an attempt to gain trust.

“Hawker” and similar laminated cards, have been seen and seized previously by police across the UK. They are “not” a valid Pedlar’s Licence or work permit, and they are not a recognised rehabilitation scheme – which is sometimes suggested by the doorstep caller.

If you receive an unexpected knock to your door, consider whether you need to answer. If you feel the need to investigate, keep your door locked and look through a side window or spy hole – or simply ask out loud who it is. It is okay to say, “No thank you” through your door without entering into conversation.
