I wanted to provide an update regarding concerns raised by local residents about the use of off-road bikes in the Guardbridge area.

 

The North East Fife Community Policing Team has received a number of reports from members of the public regarding the illegal use of off-road bikes. Following information provided by local residents, officers were able to identify the individual responsible and take appropriate action.

 

As a result of our enquiries, a male has been charged with a number of Road Traffic offences and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

I would like to thank those members of the community who came forward with information. The support of local residents is invaluable in helping us address issues that have a direct impact on the safety and wellbeing of our communities.

As part of this update, I would also like to remind residents of the legislation surrounding off-road bikes and where they can be used legally.

 

Off-Road Bikes – Know the Law

 

✓ You can:

• Ride on private land with the landowner’s permission.

• Use authorised off-road tracks and facilities.

• Transport your bike to and from a legal riding location safely and securely.

 

✗ You cannot:

• Ride an off-road bike on roads, pavements or cycle paths unless the vehicle is road legal and the rider is appropriately licensed, insured and compliant with road traffic legislation.

• Ride in public parks, play areas, woodlands, beaches or other public spaces without permission.

• Ride in a manner that causes alarm, distress or danger to other members of the public.

• Use an off-road bike recklessly or in a way that places yourself or others at risk.

 

Please be aware:

• Police have powers to seize off-road bikes that are being used illegally.

• Riders may be reported for Road Traffic offences and face fines, penalty points, driving disqualification or prosecution.

• Illegal off-road biking can cause damage to public spaces and have a significant impact on local communities.

 

If you have concerns regarding the illegal use of off-road bikes in your area, please continue to report these matters to Police Scotland via 101. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
