Volunteers’ Week and Dementia Awareness Week saw the team at the Overgate Shopping Centre in Dundee today, with representatives from Police Scotland’s Partnerships, Interventions and Prevention department and Alzheimer Scotland.
Police Scotland highlighted awareness around the Herbert Protocol and provided advice on how people affected by dementia can avoid becoming victims of crime, particularly scams, frauds and doorstep crime.
The Herbert Protocol is a tool which family members and carers can use if their loved ones go missing and more information regarding this is available at:
Neighbourhood Watch Scotland highlighted the benefits of signing up to the free Neighbourhood Alert system, which provides members of the public with information regarding incidents and events happening in their area. Importantly, information is only sent out by trusted providers. The team also discussed the upcoming RTS (Radio Teleswitch Service) switch off, which is happening later on this month, on 30th June. The switch off will affect households that use an older electricity meter for heating their home and for hot water, with some types of electricity meters needing changed. Neighbourhood Watch Scotland are partnering with E.ON Next to help reach the communities most likely to be affected and are helping to raise awareness of this issue in Scotland.
