We had a fantastic time yesterday at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Doors Open Day Event in Edinburgh!
It was wonderful to see so many adults and children attending not only to learn about the Fire Service, explore the incredible museum, and speak with firefighters but also to engage with partners and organisations including Neighbourhood Watch Scotland, Police Scotland, and St Andrew’s First Aid, who delivered practical and lifesaving CPR demonstrations. The talented face-painting artists were a huge hit Unicorns seemed to be the favourite! The arts and crafts stall was also popular, especially with children who enjoyed exploring both vintage and modern appliances and police vehicles.
We met some truly lovely people throughout the day locals, visitors from Ayrshire, and even a couple on holiday from Australia! It was a great opportunity to share information about Neighbourhood Watch Scotland, our partnership work with organisations like SFRS, Police Scotland, and Trading Standards Scotland, and to highlight the benefits of receiving trusted updates through the free Neighbourhood Alert system.
We also enjoyed seeing the range of fire appliances and taking a tour of the museum, which showcases the evolution of fire service equipment and history. Did you know? Edinburgh was home to the world’s first public and local authority-funded Fire Service, established in 1824!
If you’d like to learn more, the Museum of Scottish Fire Heritage is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
