Edinburgh University’s Welcome Week
We had a fantastic time today at Edinburgh University’s Welcome Week, where we joined our partners from
Police Scotland Prevention, Intervention, and Partnerships and the University of Edinburgh Security Section.
It was a fabulous and well-attended event, giving us the opportunity to meet some incredible students, a large number new to university life, and others returning to pursue their master’s degrees. We enjoyed learning about their studies, hearing their personal stories, and even chatting with parents who were gathering information on behalf of their children who were in lectures.
We also had the pleasure of connecting with the dedicated teams supporting students throughout their time at university, including the University of Edinburgh Security Team and Digital Skills and Training. Their presence highlighted the wide range of support available to students, helping them feel more confident and prepared as they begin or continue their academic journey.
During the event, we provided helpful information about Neighbourhood Watch Scotland (NWS) and the Neighbourhood Alert system, while our colleagues shared practical advice on a range of important topics, including:
- 🚫 How to avoid scams
- 🚍 Navigating transport options around Edinburgh
- 🛡️ Staying safe while out and about
- 📞 How to contact Police Scotland when needed
These conversations helped students feel more confident and informed as they settle into life in the city.
We also provided leaflets and information regarding the up and coming BT Digital Voice changeover and Telecare Campaign. For more information visit:
A big thank you to everyone who spoke with us, it was wonderful to see such strong interest in NWS and the Neighbourhood Alert information system.
