Exploring the Highlands: Two Inspiring Days of Community, Partnership & Stunning Scenery

What a fantastic couple of days spent in the Scottish Highlands. We were treated to stunning scenery and a warm welcome from everyone we met. Along with Crimestoppers Scotland, we were delighted to assist with partnership events in Wick and Inverness.

On day one, we set up at the Tesco Superstore in Wick and met lots of customers who were keen to learn more about how watches can be set up, and in the evening we presented at the Sinclair’s Bay Community Council meeting. Thanks so much to Richard for organising this and also to the people who came along, despite the snow and hail! You were a truly lovely audience.

There was lots of interest in how to report crime safely and anonymously through Crimestoppers and residents from Wick and a few of the outlying villages, were interested to hear how easy it is to set up their own Neighbourhood Watches and how to sign up to the free Neighbourhood Alert information system.

Thank you also to Professor Ruwan Uduwerage-Perera from De Montford University, Leicester, who spoke about building stronger communities and presented on Solution Orientated Planning.

On day two, we moved on to Inverness Railway Station where we were joined by PC Chapman from British Transport Police and again, there was lots of interest in what Crimestoppers .www.crimestoppers-uk.org and Neighbourhood Watch Scotland could offer in terms of keeping communities safe

Thanks also to Paddington Bear in John O’ Groats, who was happy to prop up our Rural Watch, sign whilst munching his marmalade sandwich! Here’s to neighbourliness and building stronger, more resilient communities.
