About 9 Alert 9 Theft of Vehicles

Between 21st – 22nd April 2026 there were a number of vehicles stolen, including ATVs and tools, from properties in the Newton Stewart and Castle Douglas areas. Police are carrying out enquiries in relation to these thefts and are asking for the public assistance to help keep their property safe. 

 

Tips to keeping your property secure:

 

  • Remove keys from vehicles when not in use, store vehicle keys in key safes where possible.
  • Keep homes/ garages/ sheds secure when not in use. Ensure windows are locked. 
  • Lock vehicles in sheds/ outbulidings out of view. 
  • Install security or movement activation lighting, theifs don’t like to be seen. 
  • Utilise CCTV, installing CCTV provides identifiable footage in case of a crime being commited. 
  • Keeps gates closed at all times, this creates another obstacle for theives to get around. 
  • Fit tracking devices or data tracking chips to your vehicle/ machinery. 
  • If you believe you have been the victim of a crime contact Police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
