About 9 Alert 9 Scam Reminder

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to send a reminder out about scams – which unfortunately we all need to remain vigilant of for both ourselves and more vulnerable friends and family.

A great way to keep up to date with current scams is to sign up for the Trading Standards Scotland Scam Share Bulletin –  https://www.tsscot.co.uk/news/scam-share/

This includes information on current scams, guidance on how and where to report them and additional information such as that below, specifically designed to assist older people –

https://www.cyberfraudhub.org/resource-database/a-guide-to-avoidingfraud-and-scams-forolder-people

I’ve attached the latest edition of the bulletin which covers the following topics – AI, cryptocurrency, QR codes, delivery, rebate, gift card and paypal scams.

It is difficult to go into every sort of scam but whatever the scammers story the end will be that they want your bank details / money / personal details.

Scam red flags to be aware of –

  • Your bank / utility company / government department will not contact you unexpectedly by text or phone.
  • You are being asked for personal details / passwords / PIN numbers – NEVER give passwords or PIN numbers to anyone, your bank will never ask for these details
  • You are being pressured or threatened to comply
  • No reputable business, bank or Government department will ever take payment in vouchers e.g. itunes / Amazon
  • If an offer sounds too good to be true it probably is.
  •

If you think you have a scammer on the phone just hang up!
