About 9 Alert 9 Cyberbyte February 2025 – Remote Access Scams

Hello and I trust this email finds you well.

In this months Cyberbyte I wish to raise awareness of Remote Access Scams.

Whilst remote access is generally used legitimately, it is also utilised by scammers wanting to take control of peoples devices in an attempt to scam them and gain access to their accounts.

So whilst we are wary of phishing emails, and on occasions Remote access scam can reach us in this format, we also have to be wary of the un-expected phone call from someone supposedly from a tech company, a bank or from a local or government authority who say they are needing access to our laptop, desktop or other device. They will ask you to login to your device, talk you through a series of actions and in some cases suggest you will need to do a software download.

This is most likely a scammer as no-one from a bank, local or government authority would ask you for remote access to your device or to do a software download.

Please keep safe online.

As usual, please feel free to share this awareness with your own contacts.

Kind regards,

Gordy.
