Public Notice Increase in Fake Currency notes 💸  in the area of West Lothian.

Local businesses are reporting a rise of cases of counterfeit banknotes predominately £20 notes in circulation. These cases are being investigated, but your vigilance is essential to help prevent further incidents.

 

🔎  What you should do. 
For businesses.
>Train staff to check notes carefully during transactions.
> Use detection tools such as UV lights, pen testers, or note scanners. 
>Verify multiple security features on notes instead of relying on a single method. 
>Avoid rushing transactions – fraudsters often attempt to distract or pressure staff. 
>Report suspicious notes immediately to authorities and retain them if safe to do so, with minimal handling of the notes.

 

For the public.  
>Inspect the cash you receive, especially in busy areas or during private transactions . 
>Refuse questionable notes politely and ask for another form of payment. 
>Never pass on a suspected fake note, as this is illegal even unintentionally. 
>Contact local Police if you think you’ve encountered counterfeit currency.
