Small actions can make a difference!
Sometimes we notice that someone may be vulnerable, distressed or in need of support, but we are not always sure what to say or do.
Our Active Bystander and Community Engagement Training gives people the confidence and practical skills to recognise concerns, respond appropriately and support others with dignity and respect.
Being an active bystander does not mean putting yourself at risk or confronting someone. It is about recognising when something may not be right, considering the situation and knowing how to respond appropriately. That could mean offering support, involving someone else, reporting a concern or knowing when it should be escalated.
What will you gain?
Our training helps people to:
- recognise signs of vulnerability, distress or risk
- respond with empathy, confidence and professionalism
- handle challenging situations in a respectful and appropriate way
- communicate in ways that promote inclusion and understanding
- understand when and how concerns should be escalated
- build confidence to take positive action when it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Training shaped around your organisation
We know that every organisation and community is different. Our sessions can be tailored to include real-world examples and scenarios relevant to your staff, customers and communities, helping participants put what they learn into practice.
Training can support organisations whose staff regularly interact with members of the public, including people who may require additional understanding, support or safeguarding consideration.
Safer neighbourhoods, stronger communities
Active bystander training is ultimately about neighbourliness and shared responsibility.
By helping people feel more confident to notice concerns, respond respectfully and seek appropriate help, we can encourage positive interactions and help create environments where people feel respected, supported and included.
NWS brings a community-focused approach, helping participants build confidence, strengthen empathy and understanding, and encourage respectful intervention.
