Is a question NWS HQ gets asked commonly. Our response is always to do the small stuff, build trusting relationships and the magic will follow.
Happy Sunday, this week we are proudly spotlighting one of our local coordinators Norrie Brown. His story is a great example of what can be achieved with ambition, determination, and a small band of dedicated residents.
Norrie has coordinated the Beith watch since 2007, in response to anti-social behaviour in his area. He has built it over time by engaging and building relationships with those willing to get involved, including the local Community Payback Team, who have helped residents develop the Beith Community Garden.
Norrie, always ambitious to achieve more, successfully raised money through funding applications. This money was used to stage events as a way of bringing community together, he fondly recalls one very memorable evening with the famous mountaineer Doug Scott.
The Garnock Valley Carve, a chain saw carving event now in its 6th year, was inspired after a trip to Canada. It now attracts top carvers and crowds of over 2,000 people, yes 2,000 people!! All achieved with a small team of committed “doers” and his main sponsor, J&D Pierce Contracts Ltd.
What an inspiration it was chatting to him, his wife Rose, and all the community champions who made the event a spectacular success.
By the way Norrie is 86, what an incredible man.
PS Please share your inspiring stories of success
