The following Alert is being circulated on behalf of The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is working with its partners Netmums and the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to encourage people to ensure they are buying safe products from reliable sources. Nowadays online shopping is a lifeline for busy people.  You can order anything from last minute gifts to toys, hair straighteners and electrical appliances, but do you check before you buy to make sure the items you purchase are safe? Last year, 91 types of toys were on the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS)’s official product recall list, along with 40 types of electrical products. Before you buy, think:What do you know about the seller?Who you are buying from?Where you are buying from? Check BEFORE you buyBefore you add your purchase to the online basket head to GOV.UK and search product recalls – https://www.gov.uk/guidance/product-recalls-and-alerts.  You can type in the name of what you want to buy and if it has been flagged up as unsafe, it will pop up in the recall list. Due to the amount of product recalls over safety concerns this is really important. Report unsafe productsIf you have purchased an item you think is dangerous report it to Advice Direct Scotland on 0808 164 6000
