Gas mains replacement work – Crown Road, Eastgate/High Street, Inverness

Gas mains replacement work – Crown Road, Eastgate/High Street, Inverness

The following Alert is being circulated on behalf of SGN

I’m writing to let you know of our plans to carry out a £58,500 gas mains replacement project in Inverness to ensure the local community continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

Starting on 31 July until 27 October our engineers will be working to replace just over 260m of old metallic gas main with new polyethylene PE pipe. The work is likely be carried out using the open cut method.  To minimise disruption, we’re working closely with Highland Council to plan any necessary traffic management and will be implementing a phased approach as outlined below.

Phase 1

Work will be starting on section uphill of Eastgate Carpark Entrance up to roundabout at Crown Road, Crown Circus and Crown Drive junction on 31 July for approx four weeks.

There will be twoway lights initially then threeway when we are closer to the roundabout. The bus stop will be closed on Crown Road. During this phase exit from Eastgate Car Park onto Crown Road will be a left turn only.

Phase 2

The second phase is downhill of the Eastgate Centre Carpark Entrance across to approx 40 Eastgate in the pedestrianised area. This is planned to start at beginning of September but may come forward or drop back a week or so either way depending how the first phase progresses.

There will be two-way lights in operation during this phase along with a three to four day road closure in September to get across the road when a diversion route will be in place. The pedestrian crossing will be closed and pedestrians diverted to crossing closer to Millburn Road.

When we are working on the downhill section traffic will be able to exit the car park onto Crown Road as normal (left or right) apart from when the road closure in is in place and for those days it will be left turn only on exit.

We wish to assure you that our work will progress as quickly as possible and we’ll be doing everything we can to limit delays and disruption and to ensure the project remains on schedule, working extended hours or at weekends as required. Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and we’ll ensure that temporary traffic lights will monitored for the first few days and timings adjusted to minimise delays as much as possible.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone you think may be impacted by our project.
